I just returned from a two-week business trip to Taiwan and China. Given the current complex US-China relations, it was a particularly insightful time to be on the ground.

I just returned from a two-week business trip to Taiwan and China.

Given the current complex US-China relations, it was a particularly insightful time to be on the ground.

Here are my key observations:

  1. Most Taiwan and China contacts view the tariff war as a lose-lose situation and question the US rationale behind these trade policies.

  2. Several Chinese manufacturers I know have already lost significant US orders due to heightened tariffs.

  3. My Taiwanese connections worry more about China-Taiwan relations, due to US-China tensions.

  4. Previously US-focused clients are now actively diversifying to other international markets — e.g., the EU and South America — as a strategic pivot.

The reality? No one can predict what happens next.

Unpredictability has defined this year, with black swan events becoming almost routine.

From a business perspective, I see this as another clear adapt-or-die situation.

We can't control uncertainties, but we can control our mindset, actions, and adaptability.

Every challenge potentially hides an opportunity.
